Cemoi launches 'transparence cacao'
Cemoi, a French chocolatier that has been committed to sustainable development for over 20 years, has launched a new initiative named ‘Transparence Cacao’.
Cemoi is focused on managing every step of the chocolate production process, from the planters to the consumers, bringing them fully traceable chocolate products of optimal quality.
In the three years between 2015 and 2017, the family group will invest €20m (£15.2m) so that the 145,000 tonnes of cocoa beans it uses every year are covered by the initiative. To deliver the programme, Cemoi will set out to each of the 60,000 planters that supply its cocoa, in order to set an action plan for each cooperative.
The aim is to improve the standard of living for producers and monitor every stage of the production process with specific quality indicators, supervised by independent bodies. The group is already present in the producer regions – Africa and South America – with special support programmes in place for product in Ivory Coast, in particular.
Patrick Poirrier, CEO of the Cemoi Group, explains, “Transparence Cacao reflects Cemoi’s commitment to the sector as a major player in cocoa and chocolate. It’s a sincere, continuous improvement strategy and an invitation for our customers to stand alongside us.”
‘Transparence Cacao’ will be been on Cemoi’s product packaging from this year onwards.
