Are Prosweets really planning a show before Interpack? Brave move!
by Angus Kennedy
My informers tell me that Prosweets have been planning an exhibition in an Interpack year for some time. ‘Something of a U turn Angus’, I was reminded by a friend at the last Prosweets show earlier this year. ‘When the exhibition started,’ he continued, ‘I seem to remember the promise that they would not run a Prosweets show in an Interpack year’. I remember that too. Hmmm - now looks like they changed their minds right?
I asked several major exhibitors at the show if a Prosweets show was a good idea in an Interpack year and all but one said they would not take a stand. Ok early days, but if you are a serious buyer and your travel costs are high, would you come to Germany in 29 Jan – 1st Feb 17 and when only a few months later you can go to Interpack in May 17?
On the subject of Interpack they actually made it shorter --- AT LAST THEY LISTENNED!!!!! Hey and take out the weekend too that Interpack has put in the middle of their show dates in 2017 and we will be even happier. Perhaps we are asking too much?
Ok it’s a brave move and most of the people I spoke with said they would not exhibit at Prosweets in an Interpack year. But we mustn’t underestimate the tenacity of the Cologne teams at Koelne Messe. But for the question has to be asked from our industry - do we really need two shows doing the same thing within three months of each other?
But Prosweets have set the dates and think they can do it. Well and so, good luck to them. It’s a slice of the Interpack cake – which is let’s face it a VERY BIG FLIPPING CAKE. I will be there in Cologne as I always go anyway, but that’s not without going to Gulf Food Manufacturing in Dubai September beforehand too which is eating at ‘the cake’ too.
Will be interesting to see and watch this great battle. But in my opinion if you think that fighting to win wars is tough. Try for once fighting for peace!
OK so see the picture - I like this picture, its me with the legendary Mr. Boyd Tunnock of Tunnocks at Prosweets just gone. One of the real people we all love to meet at trade shows.
