It's definitely the best shot

It could only come from Mr. Joseph Zotter of Zotter Schokoladen in Austria – now a good friend of mine that came over to talk at the London World Chocolate Forum in 2013 and yes, he does wear different coloured shoes and yes, he does have a chocolate graveyard with failed chocolate bar ideas (buried) in the grounds of his factory.
And yes, now he does have syringe filled ‘chocolate shots’ which we received today in our offices. At £2.90 per pack of Chocoshot® it’s definitely a novelty value purchase. Actually the one I tried today was surprising in that it tasted quite nice. Normally things that come from syringes are most terrifying and you definitely would not want to eat!
Well the one I was eating was not quite so terrifying but I have been informed that its crunchiness that I detected while eating was due to the dried insect content. Yes some of the range is made with freeze-dried insects. I don’t object to eating insects. In my opinion we should eat insects as they have more protein per pound than most meats.
Viable product or another great publicity stunt? We shall see. But I can’t help loving this company for coming up with ever-more outrageous and ridiculous products as they evolve. This is a classic product and if I was a collector of wieird and wonderful confectionery products this would add to my collection.
Zotter based in Austria was founded in 1987 and started producing chocolates on the family converted farm in 1992. They employ 160 staff and process 400 tones of cocoa to produce 800 tons of finished chocolate products a year with a 6% increase in turnover on previous year at 20 million Euros. Not bad from an initial idea to make chocolates from a country farm. The filling was rather good considering its curious ‘insectoid’ content (or was it worms?), better in my opinion, nestled inside a good chocolate shell.
