Bühler's multi-million innovation campus investment
18 May 2017Bühler has confirmed that it is set to invest CHF 50 million into creating an innovation campus at its facilities in Uzwil, Switzerland. According to the company, the three-year project will considerably strengthen its technology capabilities as it moves forward with its programme of machinery and equipment development.

Barry Callebaut UTZ scheme supports industry in Indonesia
17 May 2017Swiss chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut has continued its cocoa sustainability drive in Indonesia through implementing a UTZ scheme for cocoa production. The company has contributed USD $520,000 to 18,000 cocoa farmers to assist with farming practices in the South East Asian country, as well has having launched a mobile app Katchilè designed to assist with managing data for farmer registration and crop traceability.

GEA records first quarter growth despite market challenges
16 May 2017Process technology business GEA has reported positive first quarter results, with a 6.7 percent year-on-year revenue increase to 1.004 billion Euros. According to the company, there had been robust growth in small and medium-sized orders, despite a slowdown of customers placing major orders with the company.

Confectionery packaging driven by reduced portion sizes
12 May 2017Demand for packaging across the retail sector for confectionery has been reported at 354.5 billion units for 2016, according to latest research. The study from Euromonitor confirmed the food sector was the primary industry end-use, which grew alongside an increased call for smaller portion sizes across confectionery, bakery and wider food sectors.

Colouring foods range launched for confectionery
11 May 2017A new series of natural colouring foods based on extracts from pumpkin and carrot for use within the confectionery sector has been launched. The series from Wild Flavors and specialty ingredients (WFSI), which is part of Archer Daniels Midland Company, contains natural pigment lycopene that reportedly has antioxidant health effects.

California Prune products make their mark at awards
10 May 2017A California Prune inspired chocolate developed by chocolatier Paul. A. Young has gained a Bronze accolade at the UK’s Academy of Chocolate Awards 2017. The high-placing entry, which featured Madagascan Vanilla Caramel, also claimed the same honours in the event’s other caramel section.
